Friends of Cortes Island Society (FOCI) is pleased and excited to present the
6th annual SUSTAINABILITY HOME SHOW. This year’s theme is:
LOCALIZE YOUR LIFE with an emphasis on local wisdom, local experts, local actions towards reducing our community’s carbon footprint and building Local Resilience
Local Resilience Resilience refers to the ability of a system, from individual people to whole economies, to hold together and maintain their ability to function in the face of change and shocks from the outside.
In the context of community, resilience refers to the ability to not collapse at first sight of oil, water, food shortages, etc, and to the ability to respond with adaptability to disturbance.
The
Centre for Community Enterprise from Port Alberni, BC, says:
“A resilient community is one that takes intentional action to enhance the personal and collective capacity of its citizens and institutions to respond and influence the course of social and economic change. We believe that the state of a community resilience plays a large part in determining the future of the places we live in : whether they survive or merely cope with a declining quality of life, or successfully adapt and prosper”.
