Living on an island involves many ferry trips, especially on an island like Cortes. We take two ferries to arrive in Campbell River on Vancouver Island, our nearest major centre. I usually carry a sketchbook with me, and jot down quick sketches of the islands we pass, or the clouds building up over Mitlenatch in the centre of the Strait. On one trip the islands just off Heriot Bay were lit up in part with unusual clouds overhead. This is my interpretation in acrylic following a watercolour from my original ferry ride sketches.

This painting is exhibited in the Campbell River Public Art Gallery Satellite Displays from August 1 - 30 this summer.
