Recently, there were some inquiries about what wave height governs whether the ferry runs or not. The Ferry Corporation, in discussions with all their Captains, and Superintendents, developed a "matrix" that will create a consistent standard for safe passages, including Route 24 - from Heriot Bay to and from Whaletown.
This matrix includes influences like:
- wave height and direction of waves
-wind speeds and direction of wind
-barometer readings - falling or rising
-tide movement and direction of tides
-local weather reports

These guidelines were created to protect and safely transport their customesr, their crews, and their ships.
If you wanted further clarification on details, you can contact Senior Master Gordon Nettleton on Route 24 at Gordon.Nettletonbcferries.com; or by phone at 250-703-3521.
