For those wonderful customers, and friends.
My dear friends,
My name is Om, most of you know me as the one you speak to when your internet doesn't work. I've lived on Cortes for most of my life and work for the local internet company, Twincomm.
When I was 16 I had decided I'd had enough of the school system and quit. After that I spent a year doing pretty much nothing, played some video games and sat on the couch. After that, the fear of what was I going to do for a living grew stronger, along with the desire to do something meaningful. I had been passionate about computers for a long time, and thought I'd be good at fixing them, since I'd broken and fixed my own a thousand times. So I decided to put an ad in the Cortes Marketer and see if anyone needed my help. As time went on my business grew, and for the next couple of years I found myself getting busier and busier until Dino, from Twincomm offered me a job with them.
It's now been 10 years since I started at Twincomm. I have met so many wonderful people, and couldn't be more thankful to the kindness and love people have showed me over the years. One of the most wonderful experiences is to see someone connect to the internet, play a Youtube video, and jump for joy after having no internet previously, or worse, dial-up. I have had the joy to meet so many interesting people, and see so many unique houses and properties, on many different islands. Just recently I drove across Cortes and counted how many driveways I have not been down...it was less than 10. Obviously they do not have internet, poor souls.
Twincomm has taken me far, mentally, and physically, and the time has come for me to go further than it can take me.
With that said, I will be leaving the island by the end of the month, and as of March 1st 2019 I will no longer be involved in the day to day operations of Twincomm. There is a possibility I may stay on doing some minor remote network administration for some time after that.
Dino, Lyle, Colleen, Debbie and our new additions Jason and Clio will still be around to help you with any internet needs you may have. So don't be surprised if you hear their delightful voices on the phone in the near future.
Don't worry, I'm not disappearing, I just feel I've outgrown this little island for the time being and need to spread my gills, if you have any desire to contact me on a personal level I'd of course love to hear from you!
This letter is not meant so much as a goodbye but as a thank you. A heartfelt letter of gratitude to those of you who were insistent enough to call me when you had an issue with your internet, and yet still kind and polite when you found out I had mistakenly ruined your Netflix movie.
Thank you, I will miss you all so much.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life." - Steve Jobs

Much appreciate your help over the years. Used to have you on speed dial when the receiver was in the bush but after you and Lyle installed it on the second floor I haven't had to call since.
Happy trails and safe travels!

Thanks from both of us Om. It has been a pleasure to be served by you. I know you will do well at whatever you put your mind to and I sure hope it feeds your spirit. I am certain you will be back one day after you have had enough of the world.

The island will miss your beautiful presence, lucky will be the new place where you will spread your light! Every time Lyle went to work with you he would come home tired but very happy, always telling me how fun it was to work with you... I know he will miss you a lot!

Om, you're the best! I'll always remember the jams you got me out of ie plunging my coffee next to the laptop etc... and the patience you displayed at my total tech indifference.
You're all set to connect those dots with serious aplomb and I look forward to hearing of your adventures somewhere down the track.
Onward and Upward my Dear Om!

Om inspires me as I’m sure he has inspired all of you. Over the past 10 years he has given so much to the island and I’m happy to have been a part of his growth here. We must remember we are not losing Om but sharing him with the rest of the world. I’ve gained a lifelong friend and companion and Twincomm is to thank for this great treasure. To all of our customers and islanders who know this wonderful man, be happy and wish him well in his new beginning.
My very best,

I think, it is perfectly OK for young people to feel that they have outgrown our wonderful island.
So, go to the world and spread your wings.
