Friday, August 17 – Desolation Sound Cruise.
A world destination for boaters, Desolation Sound has dramatic mountain scenery, a myriad of islands and the warmest water temperatures in B.C. Around every point, there’s history to investigate.
At this time of year, the hundreds of yachts which visit during the summer begin to head home and peace returns to this area of soaring mountains and warm waters. Captain Mike Moore tells stories of the First Nations peoples, the early settlers and explorers. Bring your swimsuit – we often stop to test the waters!
Depart Cortes Bay at 10:30 a.m. return about 5 p.m. for ferry shuttles.
Off-island participants will travel on the 8:20 a.m. ferry to Quadra Island to link with the 8:50 a.m. ferry to Cortes Island – on Saturday (weekend schedule), or 8:30 and 9:05, respectively, on Friday. We advise that vehicles are left in Heriot Bay on Quadra Island and participants walk on to the Cortes ferry to avoid being left behind due to overload traffic. There will be a shuttle service provided from the ferry dock in Whaletown to our 10:30 a.m. departure from Cortes Bay.
For day trips, participants can choose to bring a picnic lunch. We recommend a second pair of shoes or rubber boots, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses and dress for the weather. And don’t forget to pack your camera, binoculars and curiosity! From off-island, you will need to catch a ferry in Campbell River (at 8:15 or 8:30 a.m., depending on the weekday) that connects with the first ferry to Cortes Island. Leave your car at Heriot Bay on Quadra and walk onto the Cortes ferry. A shuttle is available by donation from the Cortes ferry to Misty Isles’ departure point and then return to the ferry in the late afternoon.
Price, GST included – $130.
